Ce que nous faisons

La FRB se consacre à la protection de l’environnement dans l’intérêt public en :

  • Conservant et restaurant à long terme les écosystèmes, les berges et la biodiversité de la région de Bouchard Creek.
  • Réduisant la pollution et réhabilitant les eaux polluées de Bouchard Creek.
  • Documentant l’état du ruisseau et les efforts de restauration en cours.
  • Créant des kits pédagogiques et menant des campagnes de sensibilisation destinées au public, aux entreprises locales, aux écoles et aux décideurs politiques afin de promouvoir la conservation de l’écosystème et de la biodiversité dans la région de Bouchard Creek.)

La Fondation Ruisseau Bouchard est un projet unique à Dorval, sur l’île de Montréal, au Québec. Le ruisseau prend sa source à l’aéroport international de Montréal, YUL, et se jette dans le fleuve Saint-Laurent.

Notre vision est de penser en termes de décennies, de restaurer ce ruisseau d’ici 2040 et d’en faire un modèle pour d’autres cours d’eau urbains. Nous considérons Bouchard comme un véritable terrain d’expérimentation pour tester des innovations réutilisables ailleurs, évolutives et alimentées par des technologies émergentes telles que l’impression 3D, les plateformes d’IA, les données riches et consolidées sur les bassins versants et la visualisation en réalité augmentée.

Depuis 2021, avec une équipe composée à 100 % de bénévoles, nous avons lancé des opérations de nettoyage, mobilisé des écoles et développé nos premiers outils numériques pour documenter la santé du bassin versant. Nous avons récemment lancé un programme quinquennal de projets financé par 2,1 millions de dollars de subventions, de dons et de soutien en nature grâce à un réseau exceptionnel de partenaires.

À court terme, nous souhaitons élargir notre base de bénévoles. À moyen terme, nous renforcerons nos partenariats éducatifs et technologiques. Et à long terme, nous voulons que d’autres ruisseaux urbains perdus à Montréal et ailleurs soient restaurés à l’aide de nos méthodes et de nos outils.

Accomplishments

FRB RESULTS 2021 - 2025

  • Led by two retired pro bono executives from global enterprises who covered FRB core operating costs out of pocket, and relying exclusively on the generosity of local organizations and volunteers, the Fondation Ruisseau Bouchard (FRB) and its partners have secured over $2 million in grants and donations to support a five-year (2024–2029) program aimed at restoring and protecting Bouchard Creek.
  • Forged long-term partnerships with six schools, reaching over 4,000 students and securing in-kind leadership and staff support valued at more than $500,000.
  • Co-developed with GRAME a scalable field guide to support businesses and citizen groups in organizing clean-ups—making community-based action accessible and replicable.
  • Completed in-depth historical research on the creek’s transformation since the 17th century using Dorval and BANQ archives.
  • Analyzed 13 years of water quality data from seven monitoring stations on the Bouchard creek published by the City of Montreal.
  • Engaged the Université de Montréal team behind the original topological 3D watersheds mapping of the entire Island of Montreal, securing access to the source data.
  • Extracted watershed-specific data from this 2018 island-wide topographic survey to approximate the perimeter of the current Bouchard watershed.
  • Pioneered Canada’s first digital twin of an urban creek and its watershed, co-developed with Université Laval.
  • Integrated publicly available ownership data (municipal, provincial, federal) by municipal lot within the watershed, laying the groundwork for targeted engagement with owners: businesses, institutions and private homeowners.
  • Invited by the City of Montreal to submit a formal brief to its Consultation publique sur l’avenir de l’eau de Montréal.
  • Positioned environmental action as a strategic investment, incentivizing site-level improvements on residential, institutional, and commercial properties.
  • Secured endorsements from a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including public agencies, corporate leaders, and grassroots organizations.
  • Demonstrated high-impact outcomes without permanent staff or offices, driven by disciplined partnerships and a volunteer-led model.
